Grounds Café Hicks Lodge, serving our signature coffee, delicious homemade cakes, soups, stews, paninis and toasties, looks out over the beautiful surrounding woods and lake of The National Forest.

This former coal mining site has been totally transformed with new woodland planting. A mix of trails provide walking, running and mountain biking routes, which weave their way around through this stunning area.

There is also a brand new permissive horse route which is open for use between the months of April to October alongside a sturdy horse corral which allows guests to keep their horses safe and sound whilst you relax and enjoy a coffee with us inside our café.

The visitor centre, managed by Forestry England, is also home to our Grounds Cycle Centre, providing bike hire, service and sales for the adventurous individual to families, tots and learner riders.
